Gita Adoni began her career as a copywriter a little after college. Much to her surprise, she discovered she was not so bad after all at selling stuff in some of the best global advertising agencies in Mumbai, India. Her very first public safety awareness radio spot won a silver A&M award. She even found herself being asked to help build an agency from scratch and winning some international awards like the Cannes Lions and New York Festivals along the way, featuring in the list of the top creative talent in Asia. If you found yourself at Cannes in 2018, you may have seen some of her work featured in the presentation ceremony showcasing Indian advertising by the legendary Pandey brothers - Piyush and Prasoon - when they received the Lion of St. Mark award in recognition of their significant contribution to creativity in advertising.
After spending over 16 years working across product and service categories for national and international brands, she moved to the US with her husband. She lived in cities far removed from Madison Avenue and the likes of Don Draper. Restless and work-permitless, she put her mind to good use. She has, among other things, sharpened her culinary skills, edited a novel, been wooed by the CIA, helped various nonprofits with efforts that included building wells in Africa, providing educational support for young girls in India, addressing bullying and suicide prevention amongst teens in the US and working in the areas of peace, culture and education with a global lay Buddhist organization affiliated with the United Nations. Among many of her pro bono projects, she also had the fortune to assist Dr. Jan O'berg, Co-founder and Chairman of The Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research, an independent think tank that aims to bring about peace by peaceful means. After receiving her work permit, she moved to Oakland, California in 2018. She worked on freelance projects for digital agencies in the Bay Area and also completed a Professional Program in Graphic Design at UC Berkeley Extension. She has also worked with undergraduate and graduate students exploring the disciplines of copywriting and art direction at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta.
After finishing her Executive Master’s Degree in Heritage Science and Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology (Hyderabad), Gita collaborated with her professors to launch Dhārā, India’s very first AI-powered Indic search app that aims to serve as the foundational base to build the digital Infrastructure for the world of IKS (Indian Knowledge Systems) and the Heritage Industry. Dhārā is the very first venture of BHERI (the tech startup of the Heritage Science & Tech Department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad).
